Design tailored for manufacturing
PCB design & layout
From schematic to manufacturing
Medical devices are increasingly incorporating electronics: physiological sensors, wireless communication, signal processing, motor control, or user interfaces. Behind each of these functions lies a printed circuit board (PCB) that plays a central role. Its design directly impacts the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of the final product.
In this sector, PCBs are not just technical supports — they are critical components that must meet strict standards (IEC 60601, ISO 14971, ISO 13485, FDA, etc.) and operate within complex environments: miniaturization, harsh conditions, extended use, sterilization, and portability.
Developing PCBs for the medical field involves several major challenges:
- Absolute reliability: Every malfunction can have clinical consequences. A stable, environment-resistant operation over time is essential.
- Regulatory compliance: Design must incorporate normative requirements from the start of the project to avoid roadblocks during certification.
- Performance and miniaturization: Devices are becoming more compact, mobile, and integrated. The design must balance technical efficiency with mechanical constraints.
- EMC and electrical safety: Managing interference, isolation, and ground returns is crucial in electrically sensitive environments.
- Early industrialization: A well-designed PCB must be testable (DFT), manufacturable (DFM), and assemblable (DFA) without compromising quality.
In such a demanding context, mastering computer-aided design (CAD) becomes a strategic asset. That’s exactly what Tame-Care offers — with rigor and industry-specific expertise.
Our support
Schematic design
Every electronic project starts with a solid schematic foundation. Tame-Care brings in a dedicated hardware team specializing in medical devices. We can either create your schematics or import and adapt existing data (Altium Designer, OrCAD, etc.). We also handle the creation of components according to current industry standards, with centralized and reliable CAD library management. This phase ensures a robust base for routing, EMC analysis, and industrialization.
- Dedicated hardware team
- Schematic entry or data import from other CAD tools
- Creation of industry-standard components and library management
3D integration
Electronics must be designed in conjunction with mechanical constraints. Tame-Care performs complete modeling of components and PCBs, integrating mechanical constraints using STEP or DXF formats. Close collaboration with the mechanical design team ensures proper fit, placement, and system compatibility. The 3D data is then exported for simulation, visualization, and design reviews, facilitating decision-making during integration.
- Full component modeling
- Import of mechanical constraints (STEP, DXF)
- Integration review with the mechanical team
- Export of 3D data
Design for manufacturing, assembly, and testing
Anticipating manufacturing constraints from the design phase is key to success. Our experts integrate Design for Testability (DFT) requirements through our sister company Tame-Test, as well as Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
This approach prevents costly rework at the end of development, improves production yield, and ensures better control over time and costs.
A well-designed board is, above all, a board engineered to be built and tested efficiently.
- DFT integration (via Tame-Test)
- DFM (PCB) and DFMA considerations integrated early
High-complexity PCB layout
From simple circuits to multi-layer or HDI boards, Tame-Care handles PCB layout with high technical standards. We address all critical constraints: electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), controlled impedance, high-frequency signals, power dissipation, and mixed-signal integrity.
Our expertise includes SMT, through-hole, Pressfit, and fine-pitch BGA/LGA components (down to 0.4 mm pitch).
Our goal: maximum functional performance, along with electrical robustness and long-term reliability.
- Simple/double-sided to complex multi-layer or HDI boards
- Integration of EMC, impedance control, RF, power constraints
- Use of SMT, through-hole, Pressfit, BGA/LGA (0.4 mm pitch)
